Music for August

There are two albums that I am totally digging right now. Since I started using a music streaming service, I have listened to a ton of music, but I can’t always remember what I am listening to. So I am using this blog as a way to document what I have liked listening to.

Wild Beast – Boy King

Last year it was Jamie XX, this year it is this album. So good, and I am having a hard time getting to much of this album. Almost every song is great, and these are my favourites: Big Cat, Ponytail and Heat Your Heart out Adonis. It is alt-rock, backed up with electronic elements and catchy vocals. Listening to this every day currently.

BADBADNOTGOOD – IV

Sometimes you want something with no lyrics and a little different. That is this album. A jazz album, with some electronic components. Starts out very experimental, then plays with other styles, to rest on jazz.

Pop music and babies

Oliver was born at a special time for music, the current big hit at the moment is Gangnum Style, a Korean hit that has taken the world by storm. I find this particularly interesting, as Asia becomes more and more influencial in the west, their culture will penetrate ours. Gangnum Style is strangley catchy and very entertaining but not a song I am a huge fan of (musically speaking).

This got me thining, what were the hits when I was born?

I sent an email to my dad asking him which song were popular when I came around, 30 years ago. Here are some of them that he remembers

  • Freeze Frame – The J. Geils Band
  • Make A Move On Me – Olivia Newton-John
  • Key Largo – Bertie Higgins

Cheesy music

There is no denying that Freeze Frame is cheesy, probably just as cheesy as Gangnum style. I guess Oliver and I were born when cheesy music ruled the airways.

What song was a big hit when you were born? Let me know on Facebook.
