I listen to this podcast once a week, it is called Spark and it is produced by CBC radio. There are a number of topics on this show that really resonate with me, but the most recent episode (spark 166) really left me thinking.

Maybe it was the a section talking about fonts, maybe it was a section talking about the physical things in our lives. The last line of the podcast goes like this

Take the time to appreciate the physical in your life

I listened to this while riding my bicycle (on a path, with no cars) and I really thought about it for a second. I appreciate my bicycle. So why do I have a photo of a bicycle on this blog? About a month ago my plastic fenders broke, they needed to be replaced, so I searched for some new ones to replace them, and that is where I found these aluminum fenders, offering up more style then most fenders. So I got them, and made my bike a little more post-modern. I like my fenders, but not because they are shiny, or aluminum (which is very cool), but because they work, they keep me dry and they are an essentail part of my bicycle during a rainy Victoria winter.

Today, Tanya dropped me off at work and picked me up from work, I usually ride, but I got a ride today, and the moment I got in the door I saw my bike. I was filled with happiness, I really appreciate my bike (and all its parts), that is the physical that I appreciate in my life.
