An Update

Hey everyone, I don’t know what the media coverage is over there, by Mumbai (Bombay) was hit with terrorist attacks on the 26th and 27th of November. The Mumbai airport was shut down as a precaution, (there were no events in the airport) about 2 hours before we were to land in Mumbai. As a result we were re-routed to Delhi for the night.

We had to take a flight back to Mumbai today, and we are sitting at the airport (it is 8pm), we will spend the night here in the airport and make a decision on where we will go tomorrow.

Sorry no pictures yet. I could take some, but it would only be of airports and planes.

    The Delhi airport sucks!!
Stay safe you two, hope those attacks don’t disrupt your plans too terribly much. More sketch samosas in the departure lounge now!!

Kelly and Tanya, I got this from Anne
    This is what I know:

    · The attacks were focused on areas frequented by travellers and target foreigners. It is suspected that these terrorist acts were carried out by Indian Islamic militants.

    · The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAIT) has changed their travel advisory for India to “avoid non-essential travel” – its second highest level of warning. Other countries have issued similar warnings calling on travellers to reconsider their travel to India at this time (UK and Australia).

    · DFAIT advises to avoid all travel to the border areas, the Wagha Border is the only exception noted.
    · State elections are being held between November 14 and December 24, 2008 in the following Indian states: Chattisgrah, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Rajastan and Mizoram. Demonstrations and election-related violence could occur.

    · Federal Consular Affairs Office is 1-800-267-6788 from Canada

Oh I’m so glad you guys are ok. I listen to CBC at work all day and I basically freaked out when I heard the breaking news. Oh I’m soo relieved!!! Stay safe!

Glad you guys are fine. Nick was worried but I figured you’d still be en route when everything happened. Freaky that mine and Tanya’s friend Felicia was flying to London when 9/11 happened. Keep safe, just stay away from the fancy expensive hotels. :)

Good to hear you guys are Ok. I wasn’t overly worried as only 80 missing/dead in a city of 12 million so that’s like 0.0007% chance it was you, but still relieved. Too bad it’s messing with your travel plans. Hope the rest of your trip is event free, although maybe that’s what makes the trip memorable.

What a start to your trip! Mumbai looks really chaotic on the news. Still, you guys are so positive and I know it won’t phase you too much. The Keralan Ayurvedic centre website is: if you end up down that way and fancy some massage, relaxation etc. Lots of love x

Hi Guys! Just wanted you to know that everyone at NIHU and FRC is glad to know you’re OK. Shellie and I are sitting here during a slow AOPC, and we were thinking about you, so we decided to post and tell you we miss you already. Shellie says “come back in one piece, with all limbs intact”. Have fun on the next leg of your already exciting journey….keep us updated.

Thanks everyone for your supportive comments! We were glad that our plane never arrived in Mumbai that’s for sure!
We are enjoying Goa at this time and are deciding what to do next.
